 By Liz Ryan:

The dumbest part of employers’ bias against “job hoppers” is the idea that anyone would change jobs at the drop of a hat, for no good reason.

No one does that.

We change jobs when we are forced to, either because our current job becomes unbearable, to earn more money or because the job goes away.

We change jobs under duress, as a last resort. Who has ever quit a good job on a whim?

Good jobs are really hard to find.

The real reason employers spurn “job hoppers” is that they fear a person who has enough self-esteem to launch a job search when a job goes south is a person who won’t stay at their company for long, either - because of the problems there.

They are not afraid of your fickleness.

They are afraid that their dysfunction and lack of leadership will make you a short-term hire.

They require someone who will tolerate more abuse than you, apparently, are willing to put up with.

It’s stinks to be told your “job hopper” status makes you ineligible for hire but in reality you dodged a bullet
